2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay Cuvee Anne

2016 Chardonnay Cuvée Anne, Willamette Valley
390 cases
$40.00

The Cuvée Anne Chardonnay is blended from our best Chardonnay sites, including Freedom Hill, X Novo, Sojourner and Vojtilla Vineyards. It is a reserve blend that represents our vision of Willamette Valley Chardonnay. The wine leads with beautiful aromas of nectarine, yellow peach, white flowers and a touch of nuttiness. The palate has great balance with a strong sense of minerality and a long graceful finish.

The juice was fermented with ambient yeast, minimal bâtonnage and aged in a mix of new and neutral 500 & 350 liter barrels for 12 months. The wine is finally racked and blended to stainless steel for an additional 3 months prior to bottling.

Vineyards:

  • Freedom Hill Vineyard, Willamette Valley AVA
  • X Novo Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills AVA
  • Sojourner Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills AVA
  • Vojtilla Vineyard, Chehalem Mountain AVA

2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay Freedom Hill

2016 Chardonnay, Freedom Hill Vineyard, Willamette Valley
165 cases
$55.00

The Dusschee Family has been growing Chardonnay longer than most, putting lots of care into growing the best fruit possible since 1981. In 2012 we were lucky enough to start working with their fruit, getting access to one acre of Chardonnay and one acre of Pinot Noir. Today we now get three separate blocks of Chardonnay and three blocks of Pinot noir in an effort to diversify the clones and blocks for co-fermentation. The site is now farmed by second generation Dustin Duscchee who is farming sustainably without irrigation, and is now moving towards Organic.

The 2016 has delicate aromas of fennel, yellow flowers and mixed citrus with an emphasis on meyer lemon. The palate is a balance of power and elegance, with juicy acidity and a long minerally finish. This wine was fermented with ambient yeast and minimal bâtonnage. Then aged in a new 500L Puncheon, a once fill Puncheon and neutral Puncheon for 12 months. The wine is finally racked and blended to stainless steel for an additional 3 months prior to bottling.

2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay X Novo

2016 Chardonnay, X Novo Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills
275 cases
$65.00

In 2010 Craig & Robin Williams, of California Cabernet fame, came to Oregon where they purchased a few pieces of land in the Eola-Amity Hills and began planting vineyards. What they did would turn heads. For example, the Chardonnay block that we are honored to work with is planted to at least fifteen different clones of Chardonnay! It is one of the most unique sites in Oregon, if not the west coast, so much so that Wine & Spirits magazine just wrote an article on Willamette Valley Chardonnay and focused on this site. The site is farmed impeccably by Stirling Fox with Craig constantly pushing to produce the best Chardonnay in the Valley.

The wine has an incredible, almost exotic intensity leaning towards, lemongrass, yellow peach, tangerine and mango skin. On the palate it has great balance with a dense concentration of fruit leading to a long minerally finish.

This wine was fermented with ambient yeast and minimal bâtonnage. Then aged in a mix of new and neutral 500 & 350 liter barrels for 12 months. The wine is finally racked and blended to stainless steel for an additional 3 months prior to bottling.

2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay Bunker Hill

2016 Chardonnay, Bunker Hill Vineyard, Willamette Valley
SOLD OUT - 125 cases

As we started growing our Chardonnay production, Ken was on the hunt for great Chardonnay and he stumbled across a small vineyard called Bunker Hill tucked away in the South Salem Hills, adjacent to the Eola-Amity Hills.  The vineyard, planted in the 1990's as a 5 acre hobby vineyard, had been transitioning through winemakers and viticulturists for the past few decades.  The owner was trying to sell the property and we were able to get a bit of fruit, as was Lingua Franca.  We all fell in love with the wines from this site, and the Lingua Franca team introduced a buyer and leased the entire site. Today, the site is farmed organically by the Lingua Franca team and we are honored to continue to work with it.

In 2016 we fermented 2 puncheons and a single barrel of wine from this site, fermented with ambient yeast and minimal bâtonnage. Then aged in a mix of new and neutral barrels for 12 months. The wine is finally racked and blended to stainless steel for an additional 3 months prior to bottling.

The wine has power, yet is precise.  Almost oily the way older vines give viscousity to the palate, yet it is still clean with a tremendously long finish.  Our good friend Brian McClintic (Master Sommelier) tasted through the cellar and we all decided to offer this wine as an exclusive through his wine club VITICOLE.COM.  Look him up, he has a killer selection of wines and we are so excited to be included!

Walter Scott, Cuvee Ruth, Eola-Amity Hills

2016 Pinot Noir, Cuvee Ruth, Eola-Amity Hills
350 cases
$40.00

Each year we craft a very special wine that both reflects the Walter Scott style and captures the personality of the vintage. With the 2016 Cuvée Ruth, we combined our select barrels from some of the best vineyards in Oregon to make up this Pinot Noir, including Seven Springs, Sojourner, and Temperance Hill. We also blended into to this cuvée the little known- but not to be underestimated- Lewman Vineyard, a beautiful site adjacent to our winery. 2016 Cuvée Ruth has both red and black fruit notes layered throughout, the power and depth that the individual sites famously achieve, with an overall elegance and polish evoked by the blending of the sites.

These iconic vineyards gave us a blend of Pommard, Wadenswill and Dijon clones, which we then fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 10 months in French oak barrels- 30% of them new. The wine is unfined and unfiltered.

Cuvée Ruth is a wine dedicated to the memory of Ruth and Irv Kantor, our partner Sue's parents, showing tribute to Sue & Andy for helping us to realize our dreams.

Vineyards:

  • Temperance Hill Vineyard, Eola-Amity AVA
  • Lewman Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills AVA
  • Sojourner Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills AVA
  • Seven Springs Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills AVA

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Sequitur

2016 Sequitur Vineyard, Ribbon Ridge
SOLD OUT - 75 cases
$55.00

Introducing Sequitur! In 2010, Mike Etzel & Carey Critchlow purchased an amazing property directly adjacent to Beaux Freres's Upper Terrace, where they planted a 12 acre pinot noir vineyard. What distinguishes this vineyard, in addition to the 17 clones of pinot noir planted here, is a forest of Douglas Fir enclosing three sides of the vineyard, which gives this gentle south slope protection from winds and preserves its unique terroir. The virgin marine sediment soils in the vineyard have only been farmed with organic and biodynamic principles in order to preserve the native ground cover. We are so incredibly honored to work with Mike & Carey and this incredible site! Sequitur is farmed Biodynamically.

Sequitur is classic Ribbon Ridge, soft and round on the front, layered with plump red fruits, summer strawberries and raspberries giving it a generous, yet delicately textured palate. The wine finishes with soft tannins giving the wine drive that is reminiscent of older vines. Fermentation is done with ambient yeasts, 25% whole cluster and then aged for 15 months in barrel, all French oak with 35% new oak in the final blend.

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Temperance Hill

2016 Pinot Noir, Temperance Hill Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills
125 cases
$55.00

Temperance Hill sits on the crown of the Eola-Amity Hills, at elevations ranging from 600 to 900 feet. The site is exposed to cool afternoon marine breezes that define the wines and contribute to late ripening. This fruit is always the last to arrive during harvest, often times up to a week later then everything else. Dai Crisp has farmed this site since 2000 and has transformed it into one of the most respected sites in the Valley, farming Organically.

Temperance Hill sings of the savory qualities we have come to expect from this high elevation Eola-Amity Hills vineyard with signature dried sage, rosemary blossom, crushed raspberry and mountain huckleberry. The wine has beautiful elegance and density with high toned fruit, ripe elegant tannins, finishing with juicy acidity and a complex finish given to the wine by the 26 year old vines of this block. This fruit was 100% destemmed and then aged for 15 months in 40% new French oak.

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Seven Springs

2016 Seven Springs Vineyard, Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills
225 cases
$65.00

Widely considered one of the best vineyards in the Willamette Valley, we were one of only a few wineries outside of the estate holder, Evening Land, invited to work with the famed Seven Springs. We owe thanks to Rajat Parr for believing in what we are doing and trusting us with this fruit. Walter Scott now sources from the exciting Block B planted in some of the rockiest soil on the property called the East Ridge of Seven Springs, a mixed clonal block planted selection massale in 2007. The crew farming this site has been doing so since at least 2007. They know it better than anyone and are farming using Biodynamic practices.

The wine is classically Seven Springs through and through: pure & elegant, layered with subtle purple flowers, huckleberry and cassis aromas. The palate has great tension, full of juicy, wild red fruits & delicate spice, leading to a long complex finish. Fermentation is done with ambient yeasts, 20% Whole Cluster and then aged for 15 months in barrel, of which 35% was new French oak.

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Dubay

2016 Dubay Vineyard, Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills
SOLD OUT - 75 cases
$55.00

On the east slope of the Eola-Amity hills sits a crazy, steep, rocky vineyard named Dubay. This epic little site is farmed by our great friend and vineyard whisperer, Ryan Hannaford. He has to use a crawler to for all tractor work, but as is said, 'nothing great is ever easy.' We get a one acre block from this site from two separate sections in order for more clonal diversity. Dubay yielded around 1.2 tons per acre from this dramatic site, farmed Organically.

The wine is NUTTY GOOD, with intense purple flower and meaty, brambly fruit aromas. On the palate the wine is dense and powerful with a long almost minerally finish. Fermentation is done with ambient yeasts, 30% whole cluster and then aged for 15 months in 35% new French oak barrels.

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Sojourner

2016 Pinot Noir Sojourner Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills
450 cases
$55.00

On the southern end of the Eola-Amity Hills, facing west towards the coast range, sits the Sojourner Vineyard. At 650 feet in elevation, the site overlooks the Yamhill river valley and its surrounding vineyards. After over 30 years with Eola Springs Vineyard, Denny Peseau found the Sojourner property and developed it into an incredible 15 acres planted to three clones of Pinot Noir: Dijon115, Pommard and Wadenswill and 3.20 acres of Chardonnay! The soils are incredibly rocky, volcanic clay with lots of round stones littered throughout the hillside. Sojourner is farmed sustainably moving towards organic choices.

As our intention is to show off what 'a place has to say,' we get a section of the vineyard running down the middle of the site which touches all three clonal blocks. In the nose the wine is all wild berries layered with delicate spice, floral and intense mineral aromas. The palate is has delicate yet gripping tannins leading to a complex & vibrant finish. Sojourner is a beautiful combination of finesse & power. Fermentation is done with ambient yeasts, 30% Whole Cluster and then aged for 15 months in 35% new French oak barrels.

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Clos des Oiseaux

2016 Pinot Noir Clos des Oiseaux, Eola-Amity Hills
250 cases
$55.00

In 2011 we began leasing and farming a beautiful 2.8 acre vineyard on the South East slope of the Eola-Amity Hills, just off of Spring Valley Road. Today the land is owned by Kecia & John Keller, who upon falling in love with the site, purchased it and moved back to Oregon in the Fall of 2013. Kecia began taking Viticulture classes and has taken over management of the farming with the help of Jessica Cortell and is organically farming without irrigation.

The wine always leads with great aromatics leaning towards Asian spices, sweet kirsch and crushed strawberry fruits, gently layered with subtle floral notes. Due to the deep Jory soil making up more than half of this site, the wine tends to be quite lush, almost opulent with medium tannins and a long elegant finish. Fermentation is done with ambient yeasts, 20% Whole Cluster and then aged for 15 months in 40 % new French oak barrels.

2016 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Freedom Hill

2016 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley
225 cases
$55.00

In 2012 we were thrilled to get grapes from the iconic Freedom Hill Vineyard, which Ken had worked with at St. Innocent for over 10 years. The vineyard was planted in 1982 by Dan and Helen Dusschee who own and farm the vineyard sustainably with their son Dustin. Located in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range, the Freedom Hill Vineyard is planted on Bellpine loam soils. The soils, coupled with meticulous farming, consistently create structured and powerful wines.

Freedom Hill consistently delivers intense smoky, black fruit and brown spice aromas with just a hint of violet. Palate is medium weight with round, ripe tannins leading to a long, savory cherry pit & blackberry finish. Known as a wine of power, our Freedom Hill does not lack in finesse. Fermentation is done with ambient yeasts, 15% Whole Cluster and then aged for 15 months in 35% new French oak barrels.
